A good pillow is considered as a good friend of your sleep. With the best pillow, it might carry a decade warranty as long as you use and care for it properly. Unlike pillowcases, not many people frequently pay attention to their pillow. The sheets are washed at least one or two times a week, whereas people rarely wash their pillow.
Some people believe that the pillow should be cleaned in only one or two times per year. Firstly, you should read the label to make sure it can be washed in the machine. Whether it’s a synthetic pillow or down pillow, most of them might be machine washed. However, it’s a good idea to check it before washing. Because using powder detergent might lead to the residue, you should use a mild liquid detergent. When you are washing, wash a pair of pillow for the balance of the machine. Run through the rinse cycle twice in order to rinse it fully. Some washers have a special cycle for pillows, but if your machine doesn’t have this function, use the delicate cycle.
With feather and down pillow, you should use the air cycle to dry it thoroughly. If your pillow is still wet, it might lead to mold, so it’s the best idea to dry it completely. On the other hand, with the synthetic pillow, even when you use low heat or high heat setting, both of it can cause clumping. Instead, you should use dry and thick towels to absorb the moisture, for faster and easier drying in the machine. Also, throw in a few tennis balls, which are covered by white socks when drying. Since the white socks will help to protect your pillow from being dyed by the tennis ball.
Air Out Pillows
For longer use, you should hang your pillow outside on the clothesline. Don’t hang it under the sunlight, you should keep them in the shade because, sunlight might ruin the natural fibers. In some cases, the stains might be penetrated through the lining, clean them with a mild detergent. When the weather isn’t suitable, you might use the dryer with medium heat about 15 minutes to air thoroughly. It’s a good way to protect your pillow from the mold.
Cover and Protect
A protective cover is as important as a pillowcase. It doesn’t only protect your pillow from natural oils, humidity as well as dust, but also helps down pillow keep their form better. You should clean the covers as you wash pillowcases one or two times a week.
Except foam pillow, all pillows must be fluffed daily to keep a natural resilience of you’re the pillow. Fluffing every day will protect your pillow from dust as well as redistribute the filling evenly. It also helps your pillows stay good looking and last longer.
